On Tuesday, 9th April, 2002, Darren George was on a security patrol with other soldiers of the 1st Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment in Kabul. During the course of the patrol he was the subject of a tragic accident when he was struck by a ricocheting bullet. He died later in the day whilst he was being flown from Kabul to a hospital in Oman. a Private serving in the 1st Battalion, Royal Anglian Regiment


Darren, aged 22 at the time of his death, was a Private serving with the 1st Battalion of the Royal Anglian Regiment as part of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Kabul, Afghanistan.


He leaves his wife and childhood sweetheart Sarah and their one-year-old son Connor. His father described him as a “hero”.
