Corporal Philip Smith

of the Royal Marines

Corporal Phillip Smith was training with Bickleight based 42 Commando at Catterick Garrison when he was crushed between two military lorries.

The family of Cpl Smith, 26, from Lostwithiel in Cornwall, said "he was dedicated to his chosen career" "He will be sadly missed by his family and friends," the family said. "Phillip was a happy and loving son, who enjoyed his football, playing for many local clubs, and was also a keen golfer."

The vehicles were being driven on Range Road away from Catterick Garrison on Monday evening, the 9th June 2008. Police said as the vehicles pulled into a lay-by on the roadside they collided, resulting in Cpl Smith's fatal injuries.
